What is a Photoelectric Sensor?
A Photoelectric Sensor (also known as infrared sensors, passive infrared sensors or PIR sensors) utilise a beam of light that is either visible or infrared and it monitors that beam in three ways to trigger a process response.
What type of Photoelectric Sensors are available?The reflective type of photoelectric sensor incorporates an emitter and receiver in the same device bouncing the beam off the target item, retro-reflective sensors are similar in functionality and construction but incorporate a separate reflector to monitor detector beam interruption. The final variant, through beam photoelectric sensor, utilises a separate transmitter and receiver and relies upon the target item breaking the light beam.
What are Photoelectric Sensors used for?
Common applications for photoelectric sensors/infrared sensors include the automotive industry, controlling the jigging and bogies that transport components and engine sub-assemblies, material handling systems for easier transporting of goods. Other uses include theme parks for controlling the rides and their position, gates and automatic doors for safety and security and food and beverage production processes. Photoelectric sensors can be found in all walks of life in a myriad of applications.
